The famous English poet T. S. Eliot once wrote,

“Where is the wisdom that we have lost in our knowledge? Where is the knowledge which we have lost in our information? Knowledge lies in the appropriate use of information.”

Assimilation of information and acquiring knowledge is the personality of presenter, it should be communicative and vibrant. This will touch the mind and heart of the listeners and in turn win them.

Having an informed authority is pivotal to being a good radio presenter any day. Knowledge, being able to talk well about any given topic is the numero uno quality aside from voice qualities for a radio presenter.

Good articulation is essential for any speaker. Try and use correct words for correct emotions. RJ should have an ability to convey thoughts with the use of minimum words, yet be expressive.

An RJ should carry a cheerful personality and should be young at heart. It is important to come across amiable. This will make the listeners relate to you. Hang your shyness, and coy outside the studio. Be open and be you, don’t try to copy anybody’s style, create your own style.

Having a creative approach is a must. How and what manner can you bring forth innovation is the vital part of being a radio jockey. if there will be no creativeness, listeners will bid farewell to your program.

One must also have a command over various languages like English, Hindi, or any other depending on the region where the radio station is located. This also brings in fluency in speech. An RJ must not fumble while speaking. Even if you do once, then excuse yourself, be humble.

Try and talk about the current topic. Don’t discuss the topics from the remote past, unless it is related to a recent topic. Focus on the current developments, recent affairs, upcoming affairs and so on.

Be punctual! Start work accordingly and let the listeners wait for your program to get on air. Respect their time and they’ll reciprocate the same.

Lastly, a secret that not many bother about, is to practice! Many think that once you feel you have got a hang of jockeying, and you present well during execution, many stop practicing on a daily basis.
